Although there are some stipulations related to importing vehicles into Mozambique, it is not as difficult as it may seem. It is crucial to gather all necessary information before importing. This includes understanding taxes, fees, and required documentation. Documents needed for importing a vehicle include a valid passport, the original invoice of the car, the bill of lading, an import permit, an inspection report for non-diplomats, and a registration certificate.

It is extremely important to abide by all rules and regulations to ensure a smooth importation process. Used Japanese vehicles need to undergo an INTERTEK inspection for roadworthiness. If the vehicle passes, it will be allocated a MOZ number and allowed entry into Mozambique.

According to INTERTEK's website, after completing a Pre-advice Form (PAF) and submitting it along with other necessary documents to the INTERTEK office in Maputo, an inspection will be arranged in Japan. The exporter will then send a Request for Information (RFI) notification. The supplier has 3 business days to respond and send a final invoice to the INTERTEK office for the final certificate to be issued.

During the inspection, INTERTEK will review the costs and customs coding for delivery. After the invoice is sent and the evaluation is successful, INTERTEK will issue a Documento Unico Certificado (DUC) within 3 working days.
